Toy Review : [Machine Robo Mugenbine] MRM No.18 Razor Ninja

Wikipedia Entry of Machine Robo Mugenbine

The Mugenbine that I am reviewing today is coming from the "Mugen Gattai Series " set and the name of the Mugenbine is Razor Ninja.

The Rundown

This Mugenbine is slightly different from the being predecessors earlier in the series due to it having and additional robot form and in some the packages instead of the original Roider robot you used to build the forms for your Mugenbine, this and a few other Mugenbine in this series has a special type of Roider known as a Turboroider. The main difference between the two is that now on the legs and arms of the Roider they have a wheel attack to each part making their Vehicle Mode's rollable to an extent. Also along with the ability of having a rollable vehicle form some of the other external pieces make interesting Prop or Base Modes for the corresponding Mugenbine (which I will show once I get into the review) that makes an even better way to avoid having spare parts lying around which really hasn't been a problem for this line but is still neat nonetheless.

The Roider Base

As mentioned earlier, the Roider for this Mugenbine is of the Turboroider variant. The first thing that will catch your eye beside the new addition of wheels to the Roider is the hole in the center of his chest. The hole is mainly used for the making of the Robot Mode which will be explained at another time.

Another thing I like about the Turboroiders in the extra amount of possibility you can get with some of the poses you can get them in (ex.: the image at the beginning of the post). I've come up with a few goofy poses just to show it off.

Taking a bow.

Making snow angels

The size of the Roider is almost as tall as a king size Sharpie which is a pretty decent size for a Roider by any means and once you get him into his block form he'll be half of that.

I really like the color choice used for the Roider. It doesn't clash at all and very easy on the eyes even with the crimson red that they used on the chest. I also like that the head does resemble a ninja like face and it breaks away from the tradition of the line by having the letter it's represented by on the side of it's head. All in all. I enjoy this Roider base.

Animal Mode

The animal mode for Razor Ninja is a saw-toothed shark. Out of most of the Mugenbine that I have to date, this animal mode is pretty cool. The makers took their time in making sure that the animal form did resemble the real life counterpart. The only thing I can really nag about here is how the wheel of the Roider kind of break from the allusion that it is a shark, but besides that I enjoy the animal mode.

Machine and Base Mode

As stated before this particular form is exclusive to most of the Mugenbine in the series with a Turboroider base. The motif to this set is a Race Car and a Stop Light (?).

The machine mode is a race car along the lines of a one of the closed circuit type of car you would see in that type of race. The making of this form is pretty simple and the only thing you have to do is place the Roider face down , turn the legs' pegs downward, and place the needed pieces on top and the machine form is complete. It's a pretty neat machine form but it doesn't really roll too well but that's something most buyers from this line tend to look over though.

The prop is pretty simple. It's just a stop light...and that's all it can do...

Robot Mode

The robot mode of Razor Ninja really lives up to it's name. The former saw blade that was a fixed to the animal mode's head has become Razor Ninja's blade, and the head of the shark itself has become the center piece of the armor. Another neat thing about the robot mode is that the head is almost like an upgraded version of the base roider's head.

I really enjoy attention to detail like this in my figures. On the possibility side, Razor Ninja is very limited. The legs do kind of bend but not enough to give it any really good poses. If you're planning on displaying this form, it's still a good form to have him in but personally I'd keep him in his animal mode instead.

Final Thoughts

All aspects of the figure are pretty cool and the mold at times tend to look half assed, but with that in mind, if you can get your hands on one, pick one of these bad boys up. Their pretty hard to find and I'm lucky myself just to even be able to have one. If you like sharks, race cars and ninjas , then Razor Ninja is right up your ally.

On a side note, I have to thank Rosalinda Trading for allowing me to take this off his/her hands and alot more other Mugenbine that I have now.He has even more neat hard to find toys and more at a reasonable price.

Be sure to check him/her out at  Rosalinda Trading !
